Soil | In Pressano, the soil is composed of sedimentary rocks made of compact sandstone and limestone; in Valle dei Laghi, it has a moraine origin, rich in clay and silt. |
Vinification | The hand-picked grapes are destemmed, and the whole berries ferment in stainless steel tanks. The maceration lasts about 10 days for Lagrein and Teroldego and about 20 days for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. After fermentation is complete, the wine is aged in barriques for about 12 months, and only then is the cuvée made between the different varieties. To preserve the wine’s freshness and fruity characteristics, we use only used barriques. After bottling, Moratel is left to age for at least six months in the bottle before being released to the market. |
Production area | The Lagrein vineyard is cultivated using the Pergola training system, with a westward exposure. This is the same vineyard that produces grapes for our Pletter Riserva, but in this case, the vines are younger, with an average age of around 20 years. The climate is continental, and the soil is composed of sedimentary rock consisting of limestone and compact sandstones, known as the: Werfen Formation. The Valle dei Laghi, on the other hand, has a Mediterranean climate, and from there, with vines growned using the Guyot training system, we harvest Teroldego, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The soils are of moraine origin, and in the case of Merlot, which grows in the Pivier vineyard, rich in clay and silt. |
Production | 25-30.000 bottles, depending on the vintage. |
Other curiosities
Moratel is a blend of four red grape varieties, cultivated in two distinct areas, differing in both soil and climate. Lagrein is grown in Pressano, while Merlot, Teroldego, and Cabernet are cultivated in vineyards of the Valle dei Laghi.
